ST. MARY'S MATTERS

Albion Street small group enjoys afternoon tea in a pretty garden
Dear Friends
I'm so excited about our Away Day, this Sunday, 5th September, 10.30am - 3pm at The Hall, Cherington. All the details are below, including links to directions for getting there.

Our themes for the Away Day are restoration and celebration, and we hope this will be a chance to regroup, worship, relax and get to know each other better.

We look forward to seeing you there.

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,
we were like those who dreamed.
Our mouths were filled with laughter,
our tongues with songs of joy.
Then it was said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”
The Lord has done great things for us,
and we are filled with joy.

DIOCESE? DEANERY? BENEFICE?

Diocese? Deanery? Benefice?...If you're new to the Church of England (or even if you're not) you might wonder what it all means.

When you attend St. Mary’s, Chipping Norton, you probably have a sense that our church is part of a larger group of churches. But how exactly does that work? Linda sets out to explain...

CHRISTIAN AID

Christian Aid: Covid prevented us from doing our usual fundraising for Christian Aid week in May this year, but we have been able to take two slots at Chastleton Church to serve tea and cakes to the visitors to Chastleton House (NT). Organised by Val Fletcher from the Methodist Church, the teas were a great success and several members of St Mary’s were also involved as usual and worked hard to bake cakes and serve and wash up on the two days.

Val reports: ‘ The results of the Chastleton Teas on 20th and 25th August for Christian Aid were £416 and £740, with £50 deducted for Chastleton church fees. A total of £1226 has been sent off to Christian Aid. The teams of helpers and bakers from both our churches were very much appreciated.’

Thank you to all involved!

RESOURCE OF THE WEEK

Book: A Lineage of Grace by Francine Rivers - recommended by Bekah

‘A Lineage of Grace’ is a compilation of five books telling the stories of Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba and Mary and their devotion to the people and the God they loved.

These stories of courage and compassion empower women today to find God’s purpose for themselves and live to fulfil that calling as God intended. Throughout her writing, Francine Rivers uses her imagination, skill and heartfelt admiration for her five biblical heroines to make the Bible accounts more understandable, relevant, accessible and interesting to women.

Bekah says: "I wish everyone at church could read this book. It changed the way I think about women, and our part in God's purposes."
