ST. MARY'S MATTERS

The Kintsugi Hope group try some pyrography
Dear Friends
If you're new to church, or you still feel new, then please read down for news of our Welcome Tea - an opportunity to make yourself known, understand a bit more about St. Mary's, and meet some of the clergy and staff team.

This week also brings news of a great opportunity to support Rafiki Thabo, one of our Mission Partners. They'll be running an evening of fun, food and fine art - including a three course meal, glass of bubbly and celebration/cocktail dress code! It promises to be a great evening and the link to buy tickets is below.

Sunday sees the last of our current sermon series, "Minor Prophets, Major Message", when Judith will talk us through our final passage of Malachi. Next week we'll give you news of our new sermon series, so watch this space...

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

SUPPORT OUR MISSION PARTNER

An opportunity to support one of our mission partners closer to home, Jon Uglow will be coming to St Mary’s on in due course, to share about the work of Rafiki Thabo. He would like to extend this invitation to the St. Mary’s family, a wonderful evening to support one of our mission partners and hear more about their wonderful work...

Rafiki Thabo are having a celebration/information evening at Cokethorpe School on 19th November.  It’s a 3-course meal, priced at £25/head to cover costs and we are showing a film of our work, introducing our patron and generally celebrating the good work of the past year or two. https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/rafiki-thabo-celebration-dinner-featuring-jeremy-houghton-art-tickets-182495187017

YOUTH ALPHA

The Alpha course seeks to introduce the basics of the Christian faith through a series of talks and discussions. It is described by the organisers as “an opportunity to explore the meaning of life”.

We are initially running this for 5 weeks on a Sunday evening at the Parish Rooms, beginning on the 7th November and finishing on Sunday 5th December.

If you know anyone in school years 7-13 who would like to come along to this then please email Joel Reed on youth@stmaryscnorton.com for more information.

VOLUNTEERS' UPDATE

If you’re a volunteer at St. Mary's we’d love to see you after church at 12.30pm on Sunday 7th November in the Parish Rooms for essential updates, for food, and so that we can say a big thank you!

Your team leader should be in touch with you, but please do contact the office if you have any questions.

We look forward to seeing you!

CHRISTMAS SHOEBOX APPEAL

Don't forget that it's time to put together our Christmas shoeboxes which will be collected on the 15th November to begin their long journey, eventually to arrive in the hands of a child to celebrate Christmas.

Do watch the video to see the joy that these bring, and some examples of the crazy journeys that the boxes take! (Click and scroll down for the video.) You will get all the advice you need on what to include  - (and what not to include!)

Operation Christmas Child (samaritans-purse.org.uk)

You can use your own box and decorate it yourself, or pick up a box from church to fill.

Once it's packed and you have either donated £5 online and included the bar code, or enclosed a £5 note, then please drop it off at the Parish Centre.

If you are unable to pack a box yourself, you can always either pack one online or send a contribution and we will pack a box on your behalf.

MEN'S CURRY

CHURCH CLEANING

Brooms and ladders at the ready!

Church cleaning will take place on Saturday 6th November, and everyone is welcome!

The day will kick of at 7.15am for Men's Breakfast, followed by "high-level" cleaning (the sort that involves climbing around on ladders).

Later (time TBC)  the "low-level" team will move in to clean the parts of the church nearer the floor.

For more information contact the office or talk to Linda Carpenter or David Bishop.

WELCOME TEA

If you're new to church (or you still feel new) then you'd be very welcome to sign up for our Welcome Tea. We'll be meeting at 3pm at the Parish Rooms on Sunday 21st November.

We'd be grateful if you let the office know that you're coming so that we have enough cake for you!
