Marrying at St. Mary's

Our lovely 15th century Church is a beautiful setting for weddings.  We would be only to pleased to discuss your wedding plans with you and hope we can help.  If you live in Chipping Norton parish you have the right to be married in the parish church as long as neither of you has a former spouse still living.      if one of you has been divorced and the previous spouse is still alive a church marriage may still be possible but you will need to meet with a member of Church staff to discuss this further.

Due to recent changes in the law, you can still get married at St. Mary’s even if you don't live in the parish if you have one of these qualifying connections:-

That one of you:

·         has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or

·         was baptised in the parish concerned or

·         was prepared for confirmation in the parish or

·         has at any time regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months or

·         That one of your parents, at any time after you were born:

o   has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or

o   has regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months or

·         That one of your parents or grandparents was married in the parish

The church services that are referred to above such as Sunday services, baptism, confirmation or marriage – are of course only Church of England or Anglican services.

Talk to the Vicar or the Church Office well in advance to discuss the options open to you.

If you're marrying in a special church that's not where you live, your local church would still love to support you as you prepare for the wedding, and afterwards too so please get in touch.
